Public health initiatives aim to tackle major health challenges such as chronic disease prevention, infectious disease control, and health promotion. One of the most significant achievements in public health has been the global eradication of smallpox and the ongoing efforts to eliminate polio. In modern times, public health efforts increasingly focus on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer, which are becoming the leading causes of death globally. Public health campaigns, such as anti-smoking campaigns and vaccination drives, have proven effective in reducing the incidence of certain diseases. Furthermore, public health must address health disparities, ensuring that vulnerable populations—regardless of socioeconomic status, race, or geography—have access to the same level of care and prevention.
